The photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue was carried out under visible light irradiation using the CdZnS/ZnO photocatalyst prepared by simple precipitation method. The prepared photocatalysts were characterized by XRD and UV-vis DRS. The photocatalytic activity of CdZnS/ZnO was evaluated and compared to those of CdS and TiO2. CdZnS/ZnO photocatalyst exhibits an excellent absorption in the visible light region of 400nm to 600nm as well as UV light. It was revealed that the CdZnS/ZnO, as compared with CdS and TiO2, has higher photocatalytic activity for the degradation of methyleme blue under visible light irradiation. It was also confirmed that, under visible light irradiation, both photocatalytic and photosensitized pathways are involved in the degradation of methylene blue over photocatalyst.
