This article examines Wesley’s social holiness and Christian responsibility from the perspective of speech act theory to explore the possibility of overcoming social discrimination and oppression problems. The problem of social discrimination and oppression have to do with the language we use. The mechanism is formed in the linguistic - social structure. Thus, it creates a performative society. Language carries out discrimination and oppression, and language makes our social systems, structures, values, ideas, traditions and rules. Unfortunately, languages sometimes encounter social absurdity and irrational social traditions, values, and institutions, creating a language-society of discrimination and oppression. Therefore, this article argues that Wesley’s social holiness and Christian responsibility are necessary to solve social discrimination and oppression problems. It also examines how we can solve this problem through Wesley’s abolition of slavery and his speech acts.
