The surging prevalence of Metaverse in educational practices and extensive literature warrants a systematic exploration of the status quo and evolving trends overtime. Herein, this study undertakes a systematic global bibliometric analysis of Metaverse and language education research via cluster, keyword co-occurrence analysis, timeline visualization methods. A total of 376 culled articles were retrieved from the Web of Science database and the text mining analysis elucidated multifaceted facets and dimensions of evolving trends: the annual distribution of publication outputs, keyword clustering timeline, potential research directions and frontiers. The knowledge-mapping analysis of the scholarly landscape witnessed the pivotal role of Metaverse in language education research and the prospects. This panoramic view from the bibliometric analysis could present a solid reference for further exploration of the potential research hotspots and frontier themes, thus facilitating subsequent investigations.
