In the history of early medical mission in Korea, the trends of female medical missionaries, that is, their activities, were examined. It was natural that Korean women were very uncomfortable to receive medical treatment from male medical staff because of cultural customs at the time, and when half of the population was female, the activities of female medical missionaries were active from the beginning of medical mission. The activities of female medical missionaries were so great that not only the gynecology department was established from the beginning in Korea’s first Western-style hospital, but also the establishment of a hospital for women only and further more a school to educate Korean women as doctors is planed to establish. Therefore, it is clear that the history of medical mission in Korea can not understand the activities of medical missionaries in the early days of mission without studying the activities and contributions of female medical missionaries. Therefore, the history of female medical missionaries makes it possible to understand the whole mission history as a whole.
In the first chapter, for the overall understanding of the history of female medical missionaries, I briefly dealt with the characters according to the age classification. This paper deals with the early days of mission, so I dealt with the first and second periods(1884~1903) of the first and sixth periods(1884~1945) in detail and dealt with the rest roughly. In the previous chapter, the trend of female medical missionaries in the early days of mission was examined in the big frame of mission history in the previous chapter. In contrast, in this chapter, the trend of female medical missionaries was examined through the diaries of Ellers, the first female medical missionary belonging to the Presbyterian Church in the United States, and Rosetta Hall, a representative female medical missionary belonging to the Northern Methodist Church. Diary was a private area, and it was able to examine the activities of early female medical missionaries in three dimensions by examining them in an objective area and a private area.
