Purpose: Autism spectrum disorder(ASD) is a neuro-developmental disorder which is mainly characterized by social communication deficits. This study aims at analyzing the treatment effects of the application of AI speaker and providing suggestions for application of AI speaker in other aspects of language intervention for children with ASD. Methods: The participants were 2 children with ASD. They played conversation-based games on AI speakers at home for three weeks. The researcher measured the frequency of calling and Y/N response behaviors in children"s utterances in play situations, and analyzed changes in conversational skills by comparing the results of pre- and post-tests. Results: Both children showed increased frequency of calling and Y/N response behaviors. Both spontaneous calling and prompted calling increased. In terms of Y/N response, there was no change in the frequency of response using only gestures, but the frequency of response using speech has increased in all post-tests compared to the pre-tests. Conclusions: AI speakers can be used as an effective and attractive learning aid for children with ASD in that they respond instantly to simple speech utterances. If a variety of conversation-based games appropriate to children"s language and cognitive ability are developed, it is expected to be used as an effective communication skill learning tool for children with ASD.
