This study examined the learning process of Korean learners abroad in a self-driven manner. The qualitative research was conducted through in-depth interviews of four non-formal Korean learners in the UK. According to the results, learners experienced the mental stress of learning a foreign language and had to overcome it by themselves; hence, in the process, the role of community-supported learning became important. Learning resources were employed in various ways; however, it was found that there was a lack of English material for intermediate or higher and written learning. All the learners required teachers’ help since online courses lacked personalized explanations and practice through interaction. In addition, in individual classes, the efficiency varied depending on the teacher. According to these results, ways to supplement interaction opportunities in online courses, strengthen teachers’ learner diagnosis and class planning skills, and expand online-accessible Korean language materials are proposed.
