This paper aims to search for the substance of the Saharinokaban document(「佐波理文書」) of the Shosoin(正倉院) in Japan. The summary of the contents in this paper is as follows:
Firstly, ‘Mura(亡羅)’ was newly read on the back of the Saharinokaban document. ‘犭’ was the most controversial issue on the front page of the document, being identified as a variant form of character(異體字) of ‘鹿(deer)’.
Secondly, on the back of the Saharinokaban document, ‘丑’, which means rich which has not been polished, only served as the standard for storage, and the actual storage was made up of ‘best quality of polished rice(上米)’ or ‘polished rice(米)’.
Thirdly, ‘Su(受)‧Susil(受失)‧Silsu(失受)’ was a kind of technical term used to count the goods that have been paid. ‘Su(受)’ means that the goods have been stored, ‘Susil(受失)’ means that the goods have not been stored, and ‘Silsu(失受)’ means that the storage deadline has been missed.
Lastly, the front of the Saharinokaban document is ‘an account book for storing goods(受納帳簿)’ that organizes and records the goods that have been paid. The back of the document, on the other hand, is another ‘account book for counting goods(檢數帳簿)’ that was divided into three matters(‘受‧受失‧失受’) while counting the goods that have been paid.
