Background: Cancer is the leading cause of death in Korea, and according to the 2019 National Cancer Registry, stomach cancer ranks third in overall cancer incidence after thyroid and lung cancer. The five-year survival rate for patients with early gastric cancer who underwent gastrectomy is approximately 90-95%. However, if the cancer has metastasized to the surrounding lymph nodes or has invaded the surrounding tissues, this drops to approximately 30%. Postoperative respiratory complications include atelectasis, pneumonia, and pulmonary embolism. Postoperative complications of the circulatory system include venous thrombosis and pulmonary embolism. Nausea and vomiting after surgery are common complications that occur in 25-30% of patients undergoing general anesthesia. Surgical site bleeding usually occurs within 48 h after surgery, with the main causes being suture opening and incorrect hemostasis. Close attention should be paid to the dressing and drainage conditions of the surgical wound, as well as blood test results. Wound dehiscence and visceral protrusion most often occur between three and 10 days after surgery before collagen is formed.
Methods &Results: This simulation scenario involved a nursing situation requiring postoperative nursing for patients who have undergone gastrectomy.
Conclusion: Through this simulation scenario, nursing students can be trained and educated to improve their nursing competencies.
