The purpose of this study is to investigate the sustainable design features of the Green Library in Seoul, which has passed the G-SEED green building certification system after 2010, and to use it as a base material for sustainable green library construction planning. As an important social, cultural, and economic infrastructure of a city, public libraries will not only achieve social, cultural, and economic sustainability through the study of green libraries but also have a positive impact on public awareness of sustainable development with significant significance. The methodology of this study is to establish case study criteria based on 14 evaluation criteria from three aspects of sustainable design: environmental, social, and economic, which were derived through the literature review. The selected research objects, three green library reading room spaces, were inspected in the field and evaluated according to the case study criteria, and then a comprehensive conclusion was drawn. Through this research approach, this study concludes that the sustainability elements exhibited by green libraries are well represented in terms of social aspects but are deficient in terms of environmental and economic aspects. Based on this conclusion, in the process of building a sustainable green library in the future, additional environmental elements should be considered, such as the configuration of green plants in the reading room and additional ecological green design in the indoor environment. At the same time, the economic aspects of sustainable design should give greater consideration to the use of lower carbon or recyclable building materials indoors, as well as greater investment in the use of new energy facilities.
