Chinese independent animation has been learning from the best animation from other countries. Many Chinese independent animations have integrated American and Japanese animation styles. However, many scholars are concerned that Chinese animation creators are being excessively influenced by other cultures and might lose their own national culture. It is very regrettable for animations that lose their own national culture, so it is necessary for scholars to worry. Using collected information about China"s independent animation creation, this study finds that the style of Chinese independent animation has been changing over the past ten years. From 2010 to 2020, creators combined their personal styles with various styles of other countries and created Chinese independent animation possessing mixed-style animation characteristics. Taking the Chinese independent animation in the last ten years (2010-2020) as the subject, this study analyzes the relationship between Chinese independent animation and foreign works and focuses on how China’s independent animation has maintained its own national culture with the cultural integration of other countries and influences from foreign cultures. Independent animation liberates personal expressions, transcends current cultural boundaries, and provides an ideal cultural stage. This study analyzes the characteristics of Chinese independent animation from two perspectives, namely, visual style and narrative method, which will provide a rich theoretical basis for more animation creators.
