The purpose of this study was to analyze objective data obtained from the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee"s athletes registration statistics to understand the status of basic sports (athletes, swimming, gymnastics) athletes, examine the characteristics by event, region, and year, and provide basic data for future direction of basic sports. To this end, 96,649 basic sports player registration data were analyzed for 10 years (2012-2021). The trend according to the registration type by year and item of each item was investigated and analyzed. As a result of the study, the number of players registered in basic sports over the past 10 years has clearly decreased, and it is analyzed that the retirement rate will increase from the age of 12 in all sports. In most sports, cliff phenomena that decrease rapidly after the age of 15 appear, which is analyzed to be the cause of retirement due to high school entrance. The ratio of athletes registration in basic sports was clearly different by region, and compared to the concentration of track and field and swimming in the metropolitan area, gymnastics is considered to be properly distributed by region, which is analyzed to be a local distribution phenomenon due to poor facilities in the metropolitan area.
Based on this study, it is believed that it is possible to expand the base of basic sports players only when institutional improvements are made to enable support for basic sports to be customized or directly benefited by sports considering the life cycle.
