The purpose of this study is to examine social worker’s perception and experiences on social worker’s role in responding to changes and challenges in the New Normal era. In-depth interviews of eight social workers in Seoul analyzed utilizing qualitative content analysis. The results are summarized into 14 categories in 5 domains, such as ‘image of social worker’, ‘roles of social worker’, ‘difference of perception between social worker’s generations’, ‘experiences in responding to changes and challenges’, and ‘past, present, and future social work practice.’ Participants’ perceived image and roles of social workers have partially changed. The differences between old and new generation of social workers were expressed. “Untact” services have strengths to resolve the differences and difficulties derived by COVID19, but those also have limitations depending on the clients and practice fields. Unlike the past, the future of social workers is expected to change along with practice and clients. Based on the results, education on disasters, efforts to overcome generational gaps, solidarity between social workers, and the new role model required in the New Normal era are suggested in the study.
