Objective: This study aims to identify the level of knowledge, attitude and practice among food court handlers regarding the aspect of food safety and hygiene, and to investigate the correlation between knowledge, attitude and practice among food court handlers. Background: Food safety is a scientific discipline that describes the preparation, handling, and storage of food in appropriate ways to prevent food-borne illness. Meanwhile, the attitude of food handlers is important in the application of knowledge and can be very influential concerning individuals’ behaviour and practice. Method: The validated questionnaire was distributed among 100 food handlers at the food court in the Kuantan area. The questionnaire is divided into four sections which are socio-demographic characteristics, knowledge, attitudes and practices. The collected data were analysed using the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) software version 22. Results: The results showed there was a strong correlation between attitudes score and practices score (p value = 0.099, r = 0.105). Besides, there was a significant correlation between knowledge score and practices score (p value = 0.003, r =0. 301). Conclusion: The majority of food handlers had sufficient knowledge, attitudes and practices in food safety and hygiene. This study revealed that food handlers have a good knowledge score and able to achieve high practices score. Application: The result of the study might help the researcher and the Ministry of Health as their preliminary data in evaluating food safety and hygiene performance in various industries.
