The purpose of this study was to develop a hanbok uniform for cultural commentators working in a special environment called the palace to provide comfort and practicality, and to raise the interest and image of palace tourism to the next level.
The research method was developed by applying the principles and elements of design development based on the theoretical basis of Korean style and adding modern functionality to the construction method of hanbok. The subjects of the study are cultural commentators working at four palaces and Jongmyo Shrine in Seoul.
As a result of the study, the design concept was based on changes in the four seasons of the palace, such as roof tiles, stone walls, dancheong, plants. The colors were arranged around the five colors of yin and yang and five lines. Traditional hanbok materials were used as the material. There were three design advisory meetings and four sample reviews, and the final design was decided and the product was produced. The process of design development, expert advisory meeting, design decision-making, production, delivery, and after-sales service was conducted.
In conclusion, the development of hanbok uniforms by cultural commentators working at palaces in Seoul has developed practical and comfortable uniforms that mix the functionality of modern Western clothes while utilizing Korea"s unique traditional hanbok image.
