Wave energy is one of the most promising forms of ocean renewable sources because of its high energy density. Several wave energy adsorption systems have been invented, an oscillating water column (OWC) system has been widely employed in the application due to its high stability and reliability. The OWC system converts the wave energy to the electric energy using four energy converting stages. Firstly, the wave are pushed into the OWC system and then the water column level of OWC system is changed. Secondly, the variated water column level makes a flow into the chamber in a turbine and out of the atmosphere through the duct. Thirdly, the turbine with symmetric blades transforms the bi-directional air flow into a mechanical torque. Finally, a power control system linked to the turbine transforms the mechanical torque into electric energy. In Korea, the OWC system has been installed on the sea test-bed which was constructed in the western coast of Jeju Island.
