This research is to find out how the spatial organization has been corresponding to the specific time period by investigating the meaning of method in space planning as well of its characteristics and then suggest the direction of the museum architecture in the future. In order to accomplish the research, the museums has been categorized by its periods as the classic, modern, and present days and selected most significant samples to represent the specific period. Those selected museums, then, have been reviewed for its site planning, floor layouts, entrance, visitor support areas, exhibition space organization, lighting system, and circulation and compared between museums in order to find significant characteristics. As the result, museums have been developed by the strong influence in the present days. Due to the diversity in today's society, the museum's major space as well as the court yard must reflect broad range of social and cultural request to accomodate the visitors, administrators, and others while those spaces should serve as the center of the museum for the functional reason. In the meantime, supporting facilities for public education has been consolidated and simplified entrance areas as well as the convenient facilities to create revenues has been specifically included in the planning of the present day's museums. Exhibition areas planned with natural light penetrating through the skylight created dynamic feelings for the visitors. The most museums has separated the path of the circulation between visitors and the employees for functional reason but provided maximum comfort and freedom in visitor circulation within the exhibition areas.
