The purpose of this paper is to research the principles of training muscles for articulation through comparing methods of worldly famous voice practitioners, Cicely Berry, Kristin Linklater, Michael McCallion, Gillyanne Kayes, and David & Rebecca Carey. Four principles are researched for articulator training. Firstly, the training for articulation focuses on acquiring a new habit of using articulatory muscles which are easy to be lazy. Secondly, the active articulator such as tongue, soft palate, lips and jaw tend to move together, which induce unnecessary tension. To remove or lessen this tension, it is necessary to train articulator separately. The focus of jaw training is release and opening. It is also important to keep jaw from unnecessary join in articulation process. In lips training, it is crucial to improve activity and muscularity of upper lip and lower lip. Soft palate exercises aim not to block the vocal tract and to fortify muscularity. The goal of tongue exercises is to acquire nimbleness, muscularity, and relaxation of tongue muscles. Thirdly, the training for articulatory muscles are necessary for a better sound in resonance as well as clearness in speech. Tongue and soft palate are critical for opening vocal tract and oral cavity, which determines oral cavity resonance. Lastly, the work of articulatory muscles should connect organically with breathing through to speaking text. It is because the ultimate aim of articulation training is not the clearness itself, but the clearness for conveying lines abundantly and expressively.
