During the Cultural Controversy, Laoshe wrote a short stories of 《Ha Zao Ji》. With respect to the conflicting culture of ‘traditional culture and westernization’, Chinese intellectuals held a debate on acceptance and compromise. In this paper, I divided some works of 《Ha Zao Ji》 into Chinese - centered culture and personal - centered culture, and analyzed the contents of the criticism of culture which is included in the work. In terms of cultural tradition, <A Traditional Store> emphasizes the necessity of preserving the commercial ethics of the old Chinese style and emphasizes the desire to accept Western culture appropriately. Sha Zilong in <A Spear to get rid of souls> declared that he would “not teach” his legendary martial arts skills. [Unnecessary and disconnected] This mean is a desire to wish for the revival of true traditional martial arts, and a discourse to appreciate traditional martial arts without a future. In terms of cultural ambiguity, <A Story I heard> is the story of Meng Zhichen, a personalist who even deceives himself. He ultimately does not live a happy life [like Song Bogong]. That is to say, it is only a nuisance that blocks the new culture [future-oriented], although it can be controlled politically by the name of ‘classical reading’ [past regression]. <The Old Tragedy of the New Age> inspired the false moral virtues of the Chinese and showed a literary discourse that the hypocritical use of Chen's old man eventually led to his family tragedy.
