Settling in a new city, new immigrants find it difficult to build a local community. Increased number of small-sized families caused the increased social activities needs making networking with other people easy. Additionally, with the increased interest in nature, the desire for gardens and gardening increased. Therefore, the need for community gardens exceeding cultivation-oriented urban gardens’ limitation emerged. Basic research with reviewing community gardens’ functionality as an intermediary space for vitalizing new city communities through careful theoretical review, visiting Gimpo-Hangang Newtown, selecting 2 target areas, devising plan, and survey. As a result, the developed model’s feasibility for a community garden used a raised bed connected to unused space in park or parking lot has been checked. Secondly, high preference is shown in cultivating the edible like vegetables than ornamenting purpose, showing similar consumer perception to existing weekends farms. Thirdly, neighbor-networking interests, the major expected effect of community gardens is relatively low, so programs promoting participations and motivation are important. Fourthly, since the frequency of using parks nearby and past gardening experience show statistically significant correlation with participating intention in community gardens, the model development suggested in this research which links parks or gardening is effective.
