Objectives : This study aimed to examine the effects of orthodontic treatment on satisfaction with personal appearance in people in their 20s. Methods: Self-administered questionnaires were distributed from May 10 to 30, 2015, among which, 152 sets were analyzed using SPSS version 22.0. Results: Among all answers, “Teeth have a large influence on my appearance” accounted for the largest proportion (76%), followed by “After orthodontic treatment, I’ve become more confident of my interpersonal relationships” (50.7%). The satisfaction level with orthodontic treatment was 3.89 among men and 3.45 among women. The level of awareness regarding orthodontic treatment was 3.35 among men and 3.13 among women; it was higher among the men (p<.05). A significant difference was observed in the importance of appearance between the sexes (p<.05). Importance of appearance, satisfaction with orthodontic treatment, and maintenance and management behaviors showed a positive correlation (p<.05). Therefore, because the adults who believed that teeth had a large impact on appearance underwent teeth straightening, their awareness level, as well as satisfaction, was generally high. Conclusions: In terms of behaviors to maintain oral health, those who have completed orthodontic treatment only brushed their teeth, so they must maintain dental hygiene by visiting dental clinics and using oral hygiene supplies.
