A dictionary has been important social norms since modern countries were born. However, norms of a dictionary are subjective and political. Therefore norms of a dictionary must be considered critically. Japanese “kojien” was first made at Iwanami syoten in 1955 and revised 7 times until January 2018. It’s the most influential dictionary in Japan. It’s known that Sinmura izuru made. “kojien” based on “jien”. “jien” was made by Mizoe yaota and “kojien” was made by Sinmura takeshi, a son of Sinmura. Due to the fame of Sinmura izuru, it is writly recognized that Sinmura izuru made “kojien”. In consideration of the change of interpretation of historical words, it had been changed to be closed to the fact from the 1980 to 2008, but since the revision of 2018, interpretations have been made on the based of dictionary revisions before 3rd revision.. Norms of the dictionary are changing according to social atmosphere. And the changes are subjective and political. ictionaries have played an important role as social norms since the birth of the modern nation. The norms and definitions presented by the dictionaries function as the standards of the education field and the social systems as well. The norms that the dictionaries show are extremely subjective Political.
