Wonjuhyanggyo has been designated as Gangwon-do Cultural Heritage Material No. 98 and has been designated as the lowest level of cultural value compared to the size of the township. Purpose of this research was to re-evaluate the cultural value of WonjuHyanggyo established in the Gangwon-do Gamyeong Office and to provide basis for the promotion of urban cultural heritage itself. There are 16 local Confucian schools in Gangwon-do, and 13 of them were designated as cultural assets as of 1985 and nine sites built before 1950 were researched. Based on reconstruction, reconstruction records and the architectural composition of the reconstruction period, Cultural value of Daesungjeon Hall where the memorial service was held and Myeongnyundang where educational area were re-evaluated. Results of the research could be summarized as the following. First, the conclusion was that Wonjuhyanggyo was reconstructed in 1734 and Myeongnyundang Hall in 1749 and was the most perfectly typical of the local Confucian schools in the late Choseon Dynasty. Secondly, WonjuHyanggyo presented a layout that was suitable for the best city in Gangwon-do, and its architectural composition also was confirmed to have high cultural value as the shape of the members and the condition of the processing presented the characteristics of the late Choseon Dynasty. Therefore, Wonju Local Confucian School is worth to discuss the promotion of to tangible cultural heritage, which is a higher grade than cultural heritage materials.
