In this study, we investigated the possibility of treating rejected water containing high concentration of ammonia in sewage treatment plant using methane and biomedia attached biofilm. \ Methylobacter and Methylophilus appeared to perform autotrophic denitrification through oxidation of methane and methanol.and at the same time, the bacteria Pseudomonas, which are commonly present in activated sludge in sewage treatment plants, also co-existed. As a result of analyzing the effect on the removal of ammonia nitrogen according to the ratio of methane, the reduction rate of ammonia nitrogen was the most efficient when supplying methane at the rate of 20% of air. When rejected water from sewage treatment plant was treated as raw water without dilution, the average treatment efficiency was 60.7% (± 4.0). From this result, more than 60% of the denitrification effect was obtained by using biomedia attached microorganism and methane in rejected water generated in sewage treatment plant containing high concentration of ammonia nitrogen. And from this method, the characteristics of autotrophic denitrification in the aerobic region and heterotrophic denitrification in the anoxic region of the biomedia are simultaneously confirmed in one system.
