Antioxidant activities of the constituents of Black Soldier Flies (BSF) Hermetia illucens were determined based on the preparation of hydrolysates by enzymatic hydrolysis. One of the strongest chitinolytic bacteria called to SY-02 was isolated and subjected to the hydrolysis of BSF provided as a powder. Upon reaction performed for 2 weeks, the contents of total carbohydrates, reducing sugar, and protein in the culture supernatant were estimated to be approximately 1.942 g/L, 0.804 g/L and 219.1 g/L. However non-detectable amount of lipid in the culture supernatant was observed. Those biomolecules in the culture supernatant were further subjected to determine the antioxidant activities that showed significant free radical scavenging activities toward DPPH and ABTS, and FRAP, respectively. Our data suggest that bioactive substances derived from the hydrolysis of BSF in the culture supernatant could be utilized as an additive for animal feeds and developing other relative foods.
