While socioeconomic costs increase resulting from excessive consumption of sodium and sugar which triggers to increase in chronic diseases, the cost can be highly saved by improving eating habit. The daily sodium intake in South Korea is still about 1.6 times higher than recommended daily intake of the WHO standard, and the children’s daily sugar intake also exceeds the WHO recommended value. The sodium and sugar reduction policy being promoted so far contributes to declining intake to 32% for sodium and 19% for sugar. Recognized for heightening public awareness for reducing sodium and sugar intake, MFDS was appointed as an international excellent institution in preventing and managing chronic diseases such as obesity and diabetes. However, due to the lack of production and distribution base for sodium and sugar reduced products and insufficient measures to create the healthy eating environment, it is necessary to present a strategy to foster healthy eating habits for our daily life. To this end, a survey on the national dietary environment was conducted and its result showed that interests and demands for healthy diet are increasing since consumption patterns have changed to value quality of life, non-face-to-face transactions including online shopping are accelerated due to COVID-19 and big data analysis and artificial intelligence utilization in the food management sector is increasing.
