Due to the outbreak of COVID-19, tremendous changes are taking place in the agro-food consumption environment, agro-food consumers, and the food industry as a whole. This study aims to examine the aspects of these changes and identify issues related to sustainable food consumption. First, the environment surrounding agro-food consumption has been changing since the outbreak of COVID-19. Household financial conditions change due to unemployment and job stagnation, reduction in labor supply hours, and downward revision of expectations for future income. Accordingly, it is expected that consumption expenditure will decrease as well as the number of vulnerable households in dietary life will expand. Concerns over rising consumers’ shopping cart prices are also growing due to changes in international oil prices, international grain prices, and domestic agricultural product prices. These changes in the food markets are acting as factors hindering the sustainability of food consumption by the vulnerable. Food consumption behaviors of consumers living in the era of COVID-19 are also changing rapidly. In household food expenditure, dining out decreased, while fresh and processed food expenditure increased. In addition, the purchase of foods for household cooking is increasing, and consumption of health functional foods and eco-friendly agri-food (health-oriented, immunity enhancement) is expanding.
