Purpose: The study was performed to analyze the relationship between drinking and health behavior among adolescents in single-parent families. Methods: The research used secondary data from the Korean Youth Risk Behavior Web-Based Survey, which was performed in 2018. The sample included a total of 5,412 participants who had reported living with a single parent. The data were analyzed using SPSS 21.0 for descriptive statistics, a t-test, and a x 2 test. Multiple binary logistic regression was performed to understand the variables that significantly affected the adolescents’ drinking experiences in single-parent families. Results: The results of the multiple logistic regression analysis show that the significant predictors of adolescent drinking in single-parent families are age (OR 1.07, 95%CI 1.01~1.15), availability of alcoholic beverages (OR 6.26, 95%CI 4.60~8.52), parent offering alcohol (OR 1.42, 95%CI 1.16~1.73), current smoking (OR 4.46, 95%CI 3.12~6.37), and insufficient sleep (OR 1.26, 95%CI 1.02~1.56). In particular, health-related variables (smoking and sleeping problems) significantly predicted drinking behavior among adolescents in single-parent families. Conclusion: To reduce adolescents’ drinking in single-parent families, alcohol prevention programs should be developed that reflect environmental factors such as the availability of alcoholic beverages and parents offering alcohol to the child.
