(Background and Purpose) The street facilities are the elements that influence the image of the street space with its own unique functionality and design. The application of the funny elements of it makes the city's expression diverse and giving some identity, it becomes a meaningful living space for locals and visitors. However, indiscriminate application might damage the landscape and cause visual pollutions. The purpose of this study is to study the design characteristics and fun factor characteristics of street facilities for the systematic application of funny elements in street facilities and to present the direction and meaning of funny elements in the future development of street facilities. (Method) The analysis model consisted of two aspects: the design features of the roadside facilities and the fun factor measurement. First, the primary study was focused on the design characteristics, visual composition, psychology, behavioral interaction, and identity, etc. of street facilities that led to the diversity of pedestrian behavior through prior study. The second study drew conclusions in conjunction with the art expression techniques of pop art artist Oldenberg, who explored all aspects of funny elements and embodied elements of fun and daily fun in the environment. In addition, fun elements were defined and verified through prior research. (Results) Based on this, the domestic and foreign street facilities such as benches, recycle bins, and street stalls were selected as detailed targets, also the characteristics of the design and the funny elements and design were studied. According to the analysis, the case facilities were designed in an intuitive, popular form and color that many people could recognize. The form also supports functions and induces user behavior for use, thereby promoting publicness through experience. Management and economics were found to be inadequate and inefficient. The theme of the fun element was implementing everyday, empathetic and empirical elements, applying variations that do not deviate much from existing forms such as reproduction and borrowing. Also the location, symbolism, and timeliness among the fun factors were found to be insufficient to reflect the local identity. (Conclusions) Therefore, when applying fun factors to street facilities in the future, it is necessary to select topics based on memory and experience and implement fun elements through minimal changes that do not deviate from the existing perception among people, but reflect local characteristics such as culture, history, and values. In addition, consideration should be given to the basic functions of street facilities and the efficiency of management. The well-developed street environment, with proper application of landscape and harmonious fun elements, promotes various acts and adds urban vitality to create important assets for the community.
