The purpose of this study is to see changes in social skills and problematic behaviors of children with developmental disabilities through this experimental study. We recruited twenty children diagnosed as having developmental disabilities aged between 6 and 13. Before this study started, the data were collected through interviews with their legal guardians and preparation of a preliminary examination. Ten participants were assigned to the experimental group, and other ten participants to the control group in order to examine differences in social skills and problematic behaviors before and after participating in the 12-week rhythmic Taekwondo program. The rhythmic Taekwondo program was provided three times a week and lasted for 1 hours per day. The results indicated that the experimental group shows significant differences in the social competence scale after participation in the program compared to before participation in the program, while the control group showed no significant differences in the scale. Another results indicated that the experimental group shows significant differences in all sub-categories of the problem behavior scale except the rule violation after the program, while the control group did not show significant differences in any sub-categories of the scale. Through this study, we believe that the rhythmic Taekwondo program seems to become a good opportunity to improve social competence and reduce problematic behaviors of children with developmental disabilities.
