This study aims to design and put forward a theoretical model of justification and expose the other side of persuasion mechanism by analyzing a TV news program, based on this model. Considering justification as a reasoning-based argumentative act, this study reveals that this reasoning is deeply related to a warrant, one of Toulmin’s argumentation models and is based on values, goals and circumstances of text consumers. Also, reasoning is regarded as a process of acquiring coherence here, since when text consumers fail to come up with an appropriate warrant that connects grounds to a claim, or think grounds are inappropriate to support a claim, based on values, they have, the argument is hard to obtain validity and this cannot be justified. Given that when an argument in a logical structure is not backed up as reliable grounds, it loses soundness, provision of proof for an argument is seen as one of justification mechanisms as well. Grounds for an argument come from an averral and an attribution, which are an internal voice and an external voice respectively and each of them could be classified into voices of experts and authorities, according to statements/descriptions, explanations, assessments and legal rules, and research·statistics. In this study, ‘Yang Joon-Il… My Love Rebecca’ of [Anchor Briefing] of JTBC <News Room> aired in December 9th 2019 was analyzed as a system of justification designed as above. The text justifies the argument that ‘Our society still does not accept differences’ by making text consumers come up with a universal belief of the society derived from proof of text producers like statements/descriptions and assessments, based on their habitus.
