This paper examines the meaning of the event that Murasaki is possessed by the Mononoke of Rokujou no Miyasudokoro in the plot of The Tale of Gen-ji. The Mononoke which has the afterlife's point of view, talks the importance of relying on Buddhism to escape attachment. And this what the Mononoke told, was considered by Murasaki who wanted renouncation for afterlife. But Murasaki could not make her mind up. Because she also attached to the relationship with Gen-ji. Murasaki was in dilemma. Murasaki’s dilemma can be found in her wish of renouncation. She wished renouncation which was also salvation, during Gen-ji still loved her, but her attachment to the relationship of Gen-ji did not make let her renounce. The Mononoke of Rokujou no Miyasudokoro testified back from the afterlife to the dilemma of renouncation and attachment that Murasaki had. The Murasaki’s dilemma of renouncation and attachment could not be further advanced under the situation that Gen-ji’s attachment was found out by Murasaki. When Murasaki recognizes Gen-ji’s attachment to herself, her renouncation turns into something can not be achieved. But the Mononoke made Gen-ji’s attachment to Murasaki reveal through her illness. But Murasaki was left a way to escape from the dilemma. End of the life was the way which presents attachment was not something to be renouned for the salvation of the afterlife, but a sympathize for a finite life.
