The purpose of this paper is to examine how Ha-Gok Jung Jae-du(1649-1739) solves the difficulty of “To be arbirary according to one’s desire(Yin Jung Jong Yok)” of Yang Ming-study through his consideration of “truth(Jinli)” and “vivid logic(saengli)”. He rejected the ideology of Zhu Xi’s philosophy and emphasized the vitality of “li” by using the concept of “vivid logic”, while at the same time insisting on “choose truth” to keep “vivid logic” from being bound to sentiment. His argument has a very similar structure to that of the Orthodox school of Yangmyeong, who fought against the Taeju School and the Guijeok School. Chu su-ik, Gu yang-deok, and Jin gu-chun, three of the most prominent figures of the Orthodox school of Yangmyeong Rightists, realized the importance of original condition in studying through exchanges with Wang Yong-gye at that time. They have maintained their position that they can recover original condition through study, which points to problems in the Guijeok school or Taeju school. The Guijeok shcool neglected the vitality of study by mistaking the original condition as a substance. From Hagok's point of view, Guijiek school mistook substance for original condition and gave up the liveliness of study. Taeju shool emphasized naturalness, and the importance of studying disappeared. It can also be said that from the point of view of Hagok, they only emphasized vivid logic and lost the essence of truth. For Hagok, vivid logic is inseparable from truth, and through truth, one acquires his identity, and truth is guaranteed activity through vivid logic. This view of Hagok can be said to have a point similar to the relationship between study and the original condition of the Yangmyeong Orthodox school.

본 논문의 목적은 霞谷鄭齊斗(1649-1739)의 주요 개념 가운데 진리와 생리에 대한 고찰을 통해 그가 지적했던 양명학의 난점, 즉 임정종욕(任情從欲)의 문제를 어떻게 해결하고 있는지를 살피는 것이다. 그는 주자학의 이념적인 理를 거부하고 生理라는 개념을 내세워 理의 생동성을 강조했으며 동시에 “眞理를 택하라”라는 주장을 통해 생리가 정감에 구속되지 않도록 하였다. 이러한 그의 주장은 태주학파와 귀적학파에 대항하였던 양명 정통파의 사유 방식과 매우 유사한 구조를 지니고 있다. 양명 정통파의 대표적 인물들인 鄒守益(1491-1562，號는 東廓), 歐陽德(1496-1554，號는 南野), 陳九川(1494-1562,號는 明水)은 당시 왕용계와의 교류를 통해 공부에 있어서 본체의 중요성을 깨닫게 된다. 그들은 공부를 통해 본체를 회복할 수 있다는 입장을 견지한 인물들인데 이를 통해 귀적계열이나 태주학의 문제를 지적한다. 귀적계열은 본체를 실체로 오인하여 공부의 생동성을 방기했다. 하곡의 입장에서 보자면 귀적 계열은 진리의 본체적 성격에 집중하여 생리와의 단절이라는 결과를 초래했다고 말할 수 있다. 태주학은 자연스러움을 강조하여 공부의 중요성을 외면하였다고 할 수 있는데 이 역시 하곡의 입장에서 보자면 생리만을 강조하여 진리의 본체성을 상실한 것과 다르지 않다고 말할 수 있다. 하곡에게서의 생리는 진리와 단절될 수 없는 것이며 진리를 통해 자신의 정체성을 획득하고 진리는 생리를 통해 활동성을 보장받는다. 하곡의 이러한 견해는 양명 정통파의 공부와 본체 사이의 관계와 유사한 지점이 있다고 말할 수 있다.
