The effect of design factors and a method to predict motor performance in the initial design stage of BLDC motors were studied using response surface analysis. Experimental data for using the response surface analysis method were obtained through magnetic field analysis by the magnetic equivalent circuit method, and the core length and the number of windings, which are the main factors in motor performance, were selected for factor influence evaluation. The obtained data were analyzed to derive a mathematical regression model based on design factors and the derived regression model was confirmed the predicted level of the model by checking the coefficient of determination. As a result of the influence of the factors through ANOVA analysis, the most significant results were obtained when the two factors were changed at the same time and when one factor was changed, the results were in the order of number of windings and core length. A sample was made using an arbitrary value of the design factor and compared with a regression model. It was determined that the motor performance could be predicted while saving manufacturing cost and time in the initial motor design stage.
