An eight-week feeding trial was conducted to evaluate the effect of two dietary synbiotics Bacillus subtilis with mannan oligosaccharides and Enterococcus faecium with fructooligosaccharides in Japanese eel, Anguilla japonica. Six diets were formulated to contain a basal diet (CON), an antibiotic diet composed of CON with 4 g kg<sup>-1</sup> of oxytetracycline (OTC), and 4 synbiotic diets of 4 g kg<sup>-1</sup> mannan oligosaccharides + Bacillus subtilis at 10<sup>6</sup> and 10<sup>7</sup> CFU g<sup>-1</sup> diets (BS<SUB>6</SUB> and BS<SUB>7</SUB>) and 4 g kg<sup>-1</sup> fructooligosaccharides + Enterococcus faecium at 10<sup>6</sup> and 10<sup>7</sup> CFU g<sup>-1</sup> diets (EF<SUB>6</SUB> and EF<SUB>7</SUB>).
