In this study, we investigated the contamination level of the sanitary indicative bacteria in the discharge water from inland pollution sources along the coastline of Iwon-myeon Taean-gun Chungnam Province, located in the west coast of Korea. And antimicrobial resistance patterns of isolated enteric bacteria were also examined.
Discharged water samples were collected 3 times at 4 major inland pollution sources of Iwon-myeon during the period of June through August in 2020 and the concentration of the sanitary indicative bacteria (coliform group and fecal coliform) were measured. In this investigation 147 enteric bacteria were also isolated and antimicrobial patterns against 16 agents of them were examined by the minimum inhibitory concentration (MICs) assay.
Concentrations of coliform group and fecal coliform varied by region and ranged from 79 MPN/100 mL to 490,000 MPN/100 mL and from 2.0 MPN/100 mL to 490,000 MPN/100 mL, respectively. The concentration of fecal coliform was highest at St. 3, and the detection range was 170,000~490,000 MPN/100 mL, and it was judged by the influence of fecal contaminants from nearby campsites visited by many vacationers.
