Purpose: This study applies big data analysis to sports newspaper articles to confirm the psychological terms of athletes found in the articles, and to identify the extent to which psychological analysis of athletes is performed in writing sports articles.
Method: For this purpose, golf articles written from January 1, 2017to December 31, 2019 were collected using BigKinds, the press database of the Korea Press Foundation. In addition, 20 sports psychology terms that have an important influence on golf games and should be included in golf articles were selected for Kinesiology experts. The frequency and ratio of the data were calculated using the readxl, KoNLP, and stringr packages of the R program.
Results: According to the results of keyword analysis of 2,606 golf articles that were finally used after the data refinement process, the frequency of words such as ‘tour’, ‘season’, ‘open’, and ‘championship’, which are information related to golf tournaments, was high. In addition, terms such as ‘ta’, ‘under’, ‘buddy’, ‘par’, and ‘round’, which are golf game terms, were extracted as the most frequent words. However, the frequency of sports psychology terms was significantly lower. It was found that the ranking of the sports psychological terms selected by experts and the terms extracted through the actual big data analysis substantially coincided.
Conclusion: It has been shown that psychological analysis is not sufficiently performed even on golf articles, which are known to have a significant influence on the outcome of the player’s psychology. This study provides a standard for articles that are judged to be excellent from the point of view of the Kinesiology know-ledge system, especially articles that have been effectively analyzed for sports psychology, and the importance of professional knowledge in Kinesiology in the field of sports media and the need for field coverage of games is to emphasize.
