Purpose
Since national insurance coverage started for bariatric surgery in Korea, laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy and Roux-en Y gastric bypass are main bariatric procedures now. This study aimed to evaluate feasibility and 1-year weight loss outcomes of these two procedures in Korean morbid obese patients after national insurance coverage. In addition, since the criteria for measuring the success of weight loss are Excessive Weight Loss(EWL) and Total Weight Loss(TWL), this study would find out which of these two criteria is better.
Methods
From 2019 to 2020, 81 patients were enrolled in this study. A multicenter retrospective analysis was performed in a prospective database. Preoperative demographics, post-operative data and 1-year follow up weight loss outcomes were compared between two groups who underwent Sleeve gastrectomy (n=60) and Roux-en Y gastric bypass (n=21). Also, predictive factors for success of EWL(≥50%) and TWL(≥25%) were analyzed.
