Purpose
Many patients have been benefiting from intravenous catheterization including peripheral inserted central catheterization (PICC) or armport. In many cases, X-ray image devices such as C-arm, or rough indexes based on body landmarks have been used during the procedure for determining catheter length. The pre-cut PICC is released as products, but it is made based on Western body. Pre-cut PICC length is not matched in Asian people, so indexes based on the body of Koreans are required.
Method
This study was conducted with 107 patients who received PICC or armport from January 9th, 2020 to September 6th, 2020. The 30 patients were received the procedure on their right upper arm, 77 patients were received on their left upper arm. The correlation was analyzed between the body index including height, weight, body mass index, and body surface area (BSA), and the distance from elbow crease to the junction between right atrium (RA) and superior vena cava (SVC).
