In terms of the contracting situation due to COVID-19 and the global economic recession, more proactive export support is required to enhance the exports of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs) in South Korea. However, the current export support system has been executed on a one-time basis. Additionally, the system has an issue in that it is centered on support organizations rather than on duplicate support or consumers, and it does not adequately reflect the changes in active untact trading that have occurred as a result of the pandemic. Consequently, the need for improvement is emphasized. Accordingly, this study focused on examining the operations of the export support system for SMEs and suggesting policy guidelines for implementing a customer-oriented export support system that is responsive to business demands. Based on previous studies, research models and hypotheses were established, and a survey was conducted targeting SMEs. Analytical techniques such as multiple regression analysis were used to examine the hypothesis. The actual use of the export support system and the export performance were analyzed. As a result of the analysis, it was exposed that companies" ability to leverage information technology is necessary in the COVID-19 era. Furthermore, it was proved that utilization and export performance vary depending on the customer orientation of the export support organization and the recognition of the export support system. Thus, an effective support plan and strategy should be prepared and developed. It was determined, in particular, that policy efforts should be taken to boost the utilization by implementing a customer-oriented export support system responsive to the demands of SMEs.
