Background : As the Nagoya Protocol came into force, it became important to develop methods to identify the origin of the cultivation and production of medicinal crops. The compounds contained in the medicinal crops change as the cultivation and production environment changes. And their medicinal efficacy also changes. Therefore it is necessary to objectively discriminate the origin through metabolic analysis.
Methods and Results : Korean and Chinese Angelica gigas were analyzed using nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy based metabolomics. The overall metabolites of Korean and Chinese were compared using multivariate statistical analyses. Significantly changed metabolites were filtered using biomarker analysis. In the results, Korean and Chinese A. gigas were separated clearly in the score plot of orthogonal partial least squares discriminant analysis (OPLS-DA). OPLS model was validated using a permutation test, the root mean square error of estimation (RMSEE), and the root mean square error of prediction (RMSEP).
