This study aimed to identify how the experience of social isolation caused by the Covid19 incident affects youth in the relationship between self-esteem and Internet addiction. For the research, we used the "2020 Survey on Physical and Mental Health Conditions of the Life Culture Institute" data, and a total of 606 youth cases were used in the analysis. The analysis method followed Baron and Kenny(1986) model of statistical mediation, and performed Correlation analysis, binary logistic regression, and multiple regression analysis. Stata 14.2 was used as an analysis tool. In the first-stage analysis, self-esteem had a negative effect on Internet addiction, and in the second-stage analysis, self-esteem had a negative effect on social isolation. In the third-stage analysis, self-esteem and social isolation were simultaneously reflected in the regression equation and found that social isolation had a partial mediating effect in the relationship between self-esteem and Internet addiction. An analysis of estimates casual mediated effects showed that the proportion of mediated effects in the total effect was 11.2%. The results suggest that youth with low self-esteem are more likely to fall into Internet addiction and the lower their self-esteem, the higher the social isolation caused by Covid19, and the higher the social isolation, the higher the likelihood of falling into Internet addiction. Based on this, we suggest policy proposals for the prevention and treatment of Internet addiction for youth.
