Perfluorinated compounds (PFCs) is considered to cause environmental problems because their remarkable stability retains its degradation, leading to bioaccumulation in rivers, lakes, oceans, and soil. When exposed, the toxic compound can negatively impact reproduction, behavior, and morphology in living organisms.
Of many components, perfluorooctanoic sulfonate (PFOS) and perfluorooctanoate (PFOA) are considered the major ones in PFCs. In this study, the toxic effects of PFOS and PFOA were measured in Caenorhabditis elegans (C. elegans) model. Lethality assay was applied and uptake amount of PFCs was measured in C. elegans.
