Bulb onion (Allium cepa L.), one of the world's most important vegetable crops, contains a variety of functional phytochemicals. Red onions contain a large amount of anthocyanins, one of flavonoid pigments. Anthocyanin is known to have antioxidant and anticancer effects. In this study, we aimed to identify SNPs associated with anthocyanin content in red onion accessions using genome-wide association study (GWAS). A total of 120 red onion plants derived from 40 accessions were used for anthocyanin content and genotyping-by- sequencing (GBS) analyses.
