Age-related hearing loss (ARHL) is one of the global health problems that cause many difficulties in communication and social activities for older people. In this study, we investigated how diabetes, which was induced by streptozotocin (STZ) injection, affected the progression of ARHL and the related mechanism using the apolipoprotein E knockout (ApoE KO) male mice fed with a Western diet. The survival rate of the WD-STZ group, which was fed with a Western diet and received the STZ treatment, was 54%. The mice in other groups survived till the end of the experiment. After STZ administration, the fasting blood glucose (from 14 to 24 weeks), hemoglobin A1c levels (16, 20, and 24 weeks), and the area under the curve during the oral glucose tolerant (16, 20, and 24 weeks) were significantly elevated in STZ treated groups compared to those in non treated groups.
