As society has developed rapidly, consumers" lifestyles and consumption styles have diversified, and user customized marketing has become important. In commercial space, it is important to provide the atmosphere of space and cultural contents that can be experienced in that space rather than focusing on products, and to have differentiation by reflecting local characteristics rather than simply designing according to taste. The purpose of this study is to find out what are the elements of spatial design expression that represent locality through the example of commercial space in Seongsu-dong, which is known to reflect locality well. Through prior research and literature review, the concept of locality and the necessity of application of locality in commercial space were recognized and the social background and regional characteristics of Seongsu-dong were investigated. In order to derive design influencing factors that reveal regional characteristics, spatial characteristics and design elements of ‘Daerim Warehouse’, ‘Seongsu Yeonbang’, and ‘Onion’ located in Seongsu-dong were analyzed. All three cases showed historicality, locality and environmental friendliness through design elements and concluded that they would be closely related to naturalist architecture. It is hoped that this will be the basis for establishing a method of regional differentiation in future commercial space planning.
