Report Errors
In an uncertain society, people experience various types of stress emanating from the environment, including crowd noise, restraint of freedom, or other environmental issues, which these critically impact their well-being and health. Especially with the COVID 19 pandemic, the desire to escape the source of stress and find a healing and therapeutic environment has risen. In this study we propose a new holistic framework for healing and therapeutic environments that can be used by interested parties, such as researchers, designers, policy makers, and laypersons. A systematic review of the literature on environmental qualities impacting healing and therapy yielded 12 characteristics of such environments. In addition, we reorganized the existing therapeutic environment framework consisting of four elements according to the degree to which people are positively involved in the source of stress and placed the 12 characteristics under each element of the framework to produce a new framework. We expect it will be used for the development of sustainable research on healing and therapeutic environments.
