In routine double contrast upper gastrointestinal series variolarform of erosive gastritis were selected with confirmation by gastrofiberscopy at Severance Hospital of Yonsei University. Following observations were made in radiologically and clinically. 1. Among 26 patients men predominated over women; men 22, woman 4. 6 patients were belong to second and third decades, 16 to 4th and 5th and 7th decades. 2. The distribution of variolarform gastric erosion in stomach showed relatively characteristic relationship with the age of patents; in 2nd and 3rd and 4th and 5th decades lesions were predominated in pyloric antrum, but in 6th and 7th decades lesions tend to widely disseminated in antrum and body of stomach. 3. In majority lesions were multiple and solitary lesions were seen in only 3 cases. 4. Typical radiologic findings were demonstrated in 19 cases of variolarform erosion; that is central barium flecks and surrounding radiolucent halos. Central barium flecks were observed in majority of lesions. Absence of central barium fleck did not necessarily mean absence of central mucosal defect. The size of radiolucent halo varied from 4 to 12 mm in most of cases. 5. Lesions were misses in 7 cases by double contrast upper gastrointestinal series; all solitary lesions (3 cases) were included. Remainder 5 cases were multiple lesions, among which 3 cases were complicated by duodenal ulcer or scar deformity. 6. Coexistent lesions with variolarform erosion were found in 10 cases; 6 cases of duodenal ulcer or scar deformity, 5 cases of punctiform erosion, one case of gastric ulcer and one case of choledochoduodenal fistula. 7. The chief complaint of patients was not specific. Only epigastric discomfort in majority. Gastric bleeding was seen in one patient buy who had punctiform erosion of stomach simultaneously.
