This study attempted to certify whether the locality of local festival stories has a significant effect on the pride of local residents, whether the pride of local residents has a significant effect on festival participation, and whether there are differences between high locality perceiving groups and low locality perceiving groups in the influential relationship between the locality of local festival stories and the pride of local residents. To conduct this study, surveys were conducted for 4 days from March 21st to the 24th in the year 2019 on the local residents of Jindo-gun, the host area of the Miracle Sea Festival, selected by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism as a top cultural tourism festival, and a total of 202 surveys were used in actual proof analysis. Analysis results showed that the locality of local festival stories could be divided into regional closeness and economic closeness and it had a significant effect on the pride of local residents. Also, the pride of local residents had a significant effect on festival participation. In addition, differences occurred between groups that perceived high levels of closeness and groups that perceived low levels. Based on such results, local festival stories must be composed based on the symbolism, historicity, and locality of the festival hosting area and when festivals contribute to the economy and culture of the areas in which they are held, local pride rises and intentions to participate in the festivals also increase.
