This paper examined the meaning and property of knowledge and power, and sought a methodology to analyze the model of empowerment of knowledge. And it was attempted to generalize the relationship between knowledge and power by applying it to Confucius' thought. For this, the analysis framework for conducting the study of the model of empowerment of knowledge was established as follows. A-1. The difference between power and authority A-2. Rights and responsibilities granted to power A-3. The legitimacy and whereabouts of power B-1. The paradoxical relationship between knowledge and power B-2. The subject-object relationship and what is required of intellectuals in the power of knowledge As a framework of this study, the model of empowerment of knowledge embodied in the thoughts of Confucius was considered in two levels. The first is the relationship between Confucius' thought and the actual power of the time. Second is the theory of power constructed by Confucius' thought itself. As a result of this discussion, Confucius' thought did not meet the demands of political power in reality, but the political theory constructed by Confucius' thought was paradoxically and thoroughly pursuing the unity of knowledge and power.

본 논문은 지식과 권력의 의미와 속성 등을 검토하여 지식의 권력화 현상을 분석할 방법론을 모색하고, 이를 공자의 사상에 적용해봄으로써 지식과 권력의 관계를 일반화하기 위해 시도되었고, 본 논문이 정리한 분석틀은 다음과 같다. A-1. 권력은 복종의 강제성을, 권위는 복종의 자발성을 특징으로 하는데, 그렇다면 지식의 권력화 논의에서 특정 지식은 강제성을 동반한 권력적 속성을 갖는가, 자발적 순종을 의도하는 권위적 속성을 갖는가. A-2. 권력은 권한과 책임이라는 두 요소로 구성되며 양자 사이의 균형이 중요한 것이었고, 그 중 책임은 권력 견제 장치의 일종이었다. 그렇다면 권력화된 특정 지식은 권한과 책임을 어떠한 내용으로 구성하는가.(특히 책임의 형태는 외적 규제(강제성)의 형태인가 내적 규제(자발성)의 형태인가) A-3. 권력 성립은 정당성이 중요한 것이었고, 권력의 소재는 강제에 의존하는 실체설과 동의에 근거하는 관계설로 구분되어 설명될 수 있었다. 권력화된 특정 지식은 그 권력의 정당성을 어떻게 확보하고 있으며, 권력의 소재는 실체설과 관계설 어느 쪽으로 설명될 수 있는가. B-1. 지식과 권력은 서로 역설적 속성을 갖는다. 과연 특정 지식체계는 지식과 권력의 역설적 속성을 어떠한 균형으로 융합시켜 놓았는가. B-2. 지식은 그 자체로 지식 주체와 지식 객체를 상정하는데, 지식 전승의 측면에서 특정 지식은 주체와 객체를 어떻게 설정하고, 특히 그 내용의 측면에서 지식은 지식인에게 무엇을 요구하는가. 이상의 분석틀로써 논의한 결과, 공자의 사상은 현실적으로 당시 정치권력의 요구를 충족하지 못하는 것이었으나, 공자의 사상이 구축하는 정치이론은 역설적이게도 철저하게 지식과 정치의 일치를 추구하는 것이었다는 점 등을 밝혔다.
