The La Belle Epoch was an era when the possibilities of new art and literature were foreshadowed through the unconscious expression of contemporary intrinsic contradictions such as literature, art, science and architecture under highly advanced economic affluence during a transition period from the late 19th to early 20th centuries. Before the French Revolution, wealth was created by the royal authority and aristocrats. Therefore, the birth andㅣ development of a modern society brought two social classes – capitalist and laborer—who pursued democracy through the Industrial Revolution. Then, a capitalist society was formed, and a new social class, the ‘petit bourgeois’, emerged. In terms of research method, this study classified the background and propensity of petit bourgeois based on the resources from literature reviews, previous studies, online date, blogs and encyclopedias. Then, it produced illustrations and works which propose modern hairstyles by the type of personal characteristics according to the nature of the petit bourgeois. The goal of this study is to suggest a hairstyle trend for personal tendencies in modern times by analyzing the characteristics of lifestyles through political, commercial, popular, noble-oriented and liberal styles, which represent petit-bourgeois propensities during the La Belle Epoch. It is anticipated that the study results would be helpful as reference materials in analyzing modern up-styles.
